Indiana COVID-19 cases hit second-highest mark as testing rises

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 970 new COVID-19 cases, the second-highest number of new daily cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic. The only day with more reported cases was July 24, with 1,011.

Thursday’s number marked the 16th time in 17 days that new cases have exceeded 600.

The health department on Thursday also reported that 11,644 new individuals were tested for COVID-19, the sixth-highest daily total so far. Testing has topped 8,000 in 15 of the last 17 days.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Total cumulative cases reported Thursday: 65,253

Total cumulative cases reported Wednesday: 64,299

Increase in cumulative cases: 954

Increase in cases reported July 24-July 30: 5,677

Increase in cases reported July 17-23: 5,522

COVID-19 deaths

New deaths: 13

Total deaths: 2,746

Increase in deaths reported July 24-July 30: 63

Increase in deaths reported July 17-23: 81

COVID-19 testing

*New tested individuals: 11,644

Total cumulative tested individuals reported Tuesday: 735,848

Total cumulative tested individuals reported Wednesday: 724,238

Increase in cumulative tested individuals: 11,610

Percentage of total testing positive: 8.9%

Seven-day testing-positivity rate: 7.3%

Marion County cumulative cases: 14,270 (increase of 174)

Marion County new deaths: 3

Marion County cumulative deaths: 717

Hamilton County cumulative cases: 2,366

Hendricks County cumulative cases: 1,683

Johnson County cumulative cases: 1,600

Madison County cumulative cases: 789

Boone County cumulative cases: 609

Hancock County cumulative cases: 591

Morgan County cumulative cases: 408

Shelby County cumulative cases: 499

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 45.3%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 8.7%

Available ventilators: 77.2%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 2.3%

U.S. cases: 4,447,648

U.S. deaths: 151,077

Global cases: 17,084,446

Global deaths: 668,250

*New cases and tests are previously unreported cases and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. This category typically contains numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
