Indiana COVID-19 hospitalizations climb back past 2,000

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 climbed back above the 2,000 mark over the weekend for the first time since late September, according to statistics released Monday by the Indiana State Department of Health

Hospitalizations climbed to 2,016 on Saturday before dipping to 2,012 on Sunday, a 56% increase since the beginning of November. COVID patients occupy 22.5% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds.

The all-time high for COVID hospitalizations in Indiana during the pandemic was 3,460 on Nov. 30,2020. The most recent peak was 2,687 on Sept. 13.

The state on Monday reported 2,960 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 1,097,128, an increase of 12,640 cases over the holiday weekend.

Two more deaths from COVID-19 were reported by the state on Monday, raising the total to 16,853. That’s an increase of 48 deaths since Wednesday.
