Indiana COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to fall

The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday reported 2,389 new cases of COVID-19, the 33rd time in the past 34 days that daily cases have topped 2,000.

The state also reported another 43 deaths due to the coronavirus. Deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits for 111 straight days.

The department said 9,834 new individuals were tested Friday in Indiana, bringing the cumulative total in that category to 2,949,445.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped again, from 1,725 on Thursday to 1,648 on Friday, the lowest number since Oct. 25. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 127,500 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as Friday at 5 a.m. More than 518,995 had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 10.6%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 8.6%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 518,997 (daily increase of 15,890)

Fully vaccinated: 127,521 (daily increase of 5,267)

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 31.7%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 17.8%

Available ventilators: 77.2%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 7.6%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
