  1. Ironic that in this case the Republicans want more regulation not less. Messmer has the audacity to complain that EPA regulations don’t go far enough, while other Republicans insist that EPA protections are more than sufficient for our wetlands. Messmer would throw Indiana farmers under the bus to protect a handful of folks who can’t read a gas pump.

    1. +1, and the same people that could not read the first warning, would still not read the second warning.

  2. I still don’t understand why “Republicans” are so for farming subsidies. The reality is that technology advancement over the last 100 years has mostly eliminated the market need for family farms. The government controls the agriculture market to such an extent that it’s hardly free or representative of capitalism. Instead of manipulating markets such that we have unneeded jobs, the government should fund education for the children of farmers so they can do something else and contribute to the market economy in a more substantial way.

    1. I actually know why so many Republicans are for farming subsidies. It’s because they are farmers, know farmers, and/or represent farmers and want them to do well. At the same time that they benefit from a market heavily manipulated by the government to keep the intersection of cost & demand for agro products at the best possible place for farmers (not consumers), they beat their chests about taking nothing from the government. It’s ridiculous.
