  1. What are the measures of success that Huston refers to? Campaign contributions to the GOP from charter advocates like “Hoosiers for Great Public Schools” that’s funded from out of state?

Because the education outcomes just aren’t there. It’s not a success to give people a choice between multiple cow patty sandwiches.

  2. Put the power for the education of children back into the hands of the parents. Overwhelmingly parents seek the ability to choose the school for their kids to afford them the best education that aligns with their values. Great example of success is the fact that homeschooled kids far exceed public school children in test out scores, SAT’s and etc. The statement from Sen. Mishler that a ‘disgusting’ event occurred at a Catholic school could have been prayer before school started for all we know..

    1. “Aligns with their values” sounds like a dog whistle for a school with more white kids.

Who could tell if home schooled kids do better than kids being handed a Nintendo game controller? There is absolutely no accountability. Those kids would never bother to take the SATs.

Indiana doesn’t have to experiment with Indiana children. Other states with expansive voucher programs see a marked (around 10%) decrease in education levels.

‘Disgusting’ behavior has been demonstrated at local Indianapolis Catholic schools where long time, top performing teachers were fired because of sexual discrimination. By the way vouchers sure looks like a way for my tax dollars to fund religious institutions and you can split hairs on that one all you want, but that’s the end result.

  3. That Todd Huston so derisively dismisses Sen. Mishler’s concerns shows he is ill-equipped to give thoughtful consideration to a serious issue that has serious consequences. Alas, he shows himself to be nothing more that an ideologue hellbent on pursuing an agenda regardless of its merits or lack thereof.
