  1. May be appropriate, but how about raising the tobacco tax, banning e-cigarettes, funding physical education, increasing access to primary care, supporting childhood vaccinations, better pre-natal care, and lowering maternal morbidity and mortality rates – ROI and impact on improved public health will be much greater than fining hospitals.

  2. Hmmm…. why are we not also discussing the high cost of medical insurance, payor reluctance (denials) to cover the costs of healthcare services rendered and prescription medications, and the millions of dollars in profit the payors are taking home in bonuses across commercial, managed Medicare, managed Medicaid insurers?

  3. Along with promoting expanded preventative care and healthier lifestyles, it would make more sense to allocate additional funding to directly provide free or very low-cost healthcare. If the legislature is okay with telling a private entity how much they can charge, it should not be an issue to have this made into a public service. Healthcare is just as vital as providing for public safety.

  4. This is one of the most important bills we have seen in controlling healthcare costs for Indiana.
If passed, every Hoosier that pays for health insurance or healthcare cost could see a decrease in what they are spending.
Every Indiana employer that offers group health insurance could see a decrease in costs. Indiana employers that self-fund their group health plans would see a significant reduction in their claims spending.

The hospital associations will throw all their resources into defeating this bill.

Indiana needs this bill to become a law to start holding healthcare providers accountable for what they are charging and deliver true cost transparency.
