Indiana will receive $1.2 million in federal funding to expand a state apprenticeship program.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development will be able to use the money to expand registered apprenticeships in K-12 education, transportation, clean energy, supply chain, hospitality, care economy and other public sector occupations.

The funding also is intended to build a workforce to help support jobs created through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS and Science Act. (CHIPS is an acronym for Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors.)

Indiana is one of 46 states and territories receiving a slice of the $39 million in funding the U.S. Department of Labor is distributing to increase the capacity of apprenticeship programs.

The grants are intended to increase overall programming, which could result in more workers equipped to enter industries with workforce shortages. States also can use the funding to create partnerships with industry partners, establish post-secondary education career pathways and develop other pathways.
