Indiana reports 20 more COVID-19 deaths, most since April 2

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 1,233 new COVID-19 cases, the seventh time in nine days that new reported cases have topped 1,000.

The seven-day moving average of positive cases in Indiana was 1,184 on Tuesday, up from 985 on April 1.

The state reported 20 new deaths from COVID-19, the highest daily number since April 2.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 remained at 881 on Tuesday. The all-time high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The health department reported the testing of 4,872 new individuals.

The state said more than 1.46 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m. More than 2 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 4.9%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 2,054,305 (daily increase of 36,010)

Fully vaccinated: 1,465,361 (daily increase of 31,848)

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 28.1%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 8.4%

Available ventilators: 79.5%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 2.6%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
