The department said 5,570 new individuals had been tested, the second day in a row that fewer than 10,000 people had been tested after 61 straight days exceeding that number.
The state also reported 43 more deaths due to COVID-19, marking the 27th consecutive day that deaths have exceeded 25 in the daily report.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased for the second straight day, from 2,811 on Saturday to 2,866 on Sunday. The high mark was 3,460 set on Nov. 30.
COVID-19 patients occupy 25.9% of the state’s intensive care beds.
The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals remained at 23.5%.
School data
The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported the latest figures related to schools. The results are updated weekly. The latest report covered the week ended Dec. 25
The latest figures showed a rise in student COVID-19 cases of 390, an increase of 98 teacher cases and 103 more staff cases.
Cumulative case counts since the beginning of the school years rose to 18,849 students, 3,896 teachers and 4,713 staff members.
The state said 1,886 schools have reported one or more cases, while 307 have seen no cases. Another 175 schools have not reported data to the state.
