Indiana reports 32 more deaths from COVID

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 879 new cases of COVID-19, the eighth straight day that fewer than 1,000 cases have been reported.

The state also reported 32 new deaths due to the coronavirus for the second day in a row. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 143 of the past 145 days.

The department said 5,714 new individuals were tested Thursday.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 692 on Wednesday to 730 on Thursday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 657,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Friday at 5 a.m. More than 1.08 million had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.3%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
