Indiana reports 3,505 new COVID-19 cases, 46 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday reported 3,505 new COVID-19 cases, the second-highest number so far in the daily department report. New cases have exceeded 3,000 for three consecutive days and topped 2,000 for 10 straight days.

The department said the seven-day moving average for cases reached an all-time high of 2,714.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 hit 1,740 on Friday, the highest mark since April 13, when they reached an all-time high of 1,799.

The state reported 46 new deaths due to COVID-19, bringing Indiana’s total to 4,096. Newly reported deaths have been in double digits 24 times over the past 26 days.

The department reported the testing of 14,765 more unique individuals.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate for unique individuals jumped from 14.6% on Friday to 15.1% on Saturday.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 5.9%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 7.9%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 30.1%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 23.8%

Available ventilators: 78.5%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 6.2%

Global cases: 45,731,600

Global deaths: 1,191,087

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
