Indiana reports 3,726 more COVID-19 cases, 30 additional deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported 3,726 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest number in six days.

The department also reported 30 more deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the cumulative total to 8,643 during the pandemic.

The state said 10,609 new individuals have been tested, the fifth straight day that testing in that category has topped 10,000.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell from 2,593 on Saturday to 2,537 on Sunday, the fourth straight day of decreases. The high mark was 3,460 set on Nov. 30.

COVID-19 patients occupy 26.4% of the state’s intensive care beds.

The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals is 28.4%.

School data

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported the latest figures related to schools. The results are updated weekly. The latest report covered the week ended Jan. 8.

The latest figures showed a rise in student COVID-19 cases of 1,658, an increase of 375 teacher cases and 372 more staff cases.

Cumulative case counts since the beginning of the school years rose to 20,710 students, 4,375 teachers and 5,141 staff members.

The state said 1,896 schools have reported one or more cases, while 170 have seen no cases. Another 302 schools have not reported data to the state.
