Indiana reports 5,429 more COVID-19 cases, 39 new deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday reported 5,429 new cases of COVID-19, the 40th time new cases have topped 5,000 in the daily report in the past 52 days.

The department also reported 39 more deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the cumulative total to 8,055. Deaths have exceeded 25 in the report for 31 straight days. The state has reported 519 new deaths over the past seven days, an average of 74.1 per day, up from 487 the previous week, or 69.6 per day.

The department said 11,755 new individuals were tested, increasing the cumulative total in that category to 2,660,696.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped from 2,786 on Friday to 2,655 on Saturday, the lowest number since Nov. 14. The high mark was 3,460 set on Nov. 30.

COVID-19 patients occupy 31% of the state’s intensive care beds.

The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals is 24.8%.
