Indiana reports 5,853 new COVID-19 cases, 98 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 98 new deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the cumulative total to 6,207.

The state reported 5,853 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide cumulative total of cases to 398,417 during the pandemic.

New cases have exceeded 5,000 in 27 of the past 29 daily reports.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 slipped slightly, from 3,250 on Monday to 3,244 on Tuesday.

Testing of new individuals rose by 15,207, the 43rd straight day that testing in that category has exceeded 10,000.

The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals increased from 27.6% to 27.7%.

COVID-19 patients occupy 43.5% of the state’s intensive care beds. The state said 20.8% of its ICU beds are still available.

In its weekly update of long-term-care facility COVID-19 counts,the department said there were 1,580 new cases and 253 more deaths among residents over the week ended Dec. 2, bringing resident totals during the pandemic to 16,125 cases and 3,282 deaths. There have been 10,349 cumulative staff cases and 14 staff deaths.
