The state reported 53 more deaths due to COVID-19, the 20th straight time that deaths have exceeded 25 in the daily report. Indiana has reported an increase of 1,472 deaths from COVID-19 since the beginning of the month, just two fewer than the increase of deaths reported in all of November.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 remained at 2,932 on Saturday, the same number as on Friday. The high mark was 3,460 set on Nov. 30.
COVID-19 patients occupy 30.6% of the state’s intensive care beds and non-COVID patients are taking up 45.8%, leaving 23.6% available.
The department said it tested 19,309 new individuals, the highest mark since Dec. 12. Testing in that category has exceeded 10,000 for 55 straight days.
The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals dropped from 24.4% to 24.3%.

ICU bed and ventilator COVID patients down significantly over the last two weeks. The continued focus/borderline obsession on number of cases still continues to be a headscratcher, especially when that number doesn’t appear to correlate with the hospitalizations.
What does the “w” next to the percentage of available ventilators mean? It was on yesterday’s numbers, too.
Overall deaths in the United States is down from last year. How can that be????
