Indiana reports 809 new COVID-19 cases, 16 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 809 new COVID-19 cases, the fifth time in six days when new cases have exceeded 800.

The state has seen an average increase of 823 cases daily over the past week, compared with an increase of 746 cases daily in the previous week.

The health department on Tuesday also reported 9,079 new COVID-19 tests, the seventh time in eight days when daily testing has exceeded 9,000. Daily testing has topped at least 8,000 in 14 of the last 15 days.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Total cumulative cases reported Monday: 62,907

Increase in cumulative cases: 771

Increase in cases reported July 22-July 28: 5,762

Increase in cases reported July 15-21: 5,224

COVID-19 deaths

New deaths: 16

Total deaths: 2,725

Increase in deaths reported July 22-July 28: 73

Increase in deaths reported July 15-21: 70

COVID-19 testing

*New tests: 9,079

Total cumulative tests reported Tuesday: 716,809

Total cumulative tests reported Monday: 707,791

Increase in cumulative tests: 9,018

Percentage of total testing positive: 8.9%

Marion County cumulative cases: 13,954 (increase of 136)

Marion County new deaths: 0

Hamilton County cumulative cases: 2,288

Hendricks County cumulative cases: 1,666

Johnson County cumulative cases: 1,574

Madison County cumulative cases: 774

Boone County cumulative cases: 592

Hancock County cumulative cases: 579

Morgan County cumulative cases: 399

Shelby County cumulative cases: 493

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 48.4%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 9.2%

Available ventilators: 75.6%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 2.3%

U.S. deaths: 148,298

Global cases: 16,534,345

Global deaths: 655,084

*New cases and tests are previously unreported cases and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. This category typically contains numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
