The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 86 more deaths due to COVID-19, the highest number of new deaths contained in the department’s daily COVID report since Feb. 12, when the same number was reported.

The deaths took place from Aug. 21 to Tuesday, but were all reported to the department on Monday. The seven-day moving average of new deaths rose to 18 per day, the health department said. The cumulative total of COVID-19 deaths during the pandemic increased to 14,258.

Hospitalizations ticked down from 2,518 on Monday to 2,513 Tuesday. That number is up from 1,109 a month ago and 418 two months ago. Nearly a third (31.3%) of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients.

The health department said 2,952 new cases of COVID-19 were reported to the state on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative total to 889,362.
