Indiana reports 976 new COVID-19 cases, 15 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 976 new cases of COVID-19. Daily COVID-19 cases have been below 1,000 for 18 straight days and for 26 of the past 27 days.

The state also reported the deaths of 15 more people from COVID-19, raising the cumulative number to 12,568.

The department said 1,455 new individuals were tested Tuesday, the lowest number in that category since April.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 596 on Monday to 584 on Tuesday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 992,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m. More than 1.49 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.3%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

Available ICU beds: 33.2 %

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 4.3%

Available ventilators: 81.8%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 1.6%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
