Indiana reports another 72 deaths from COVID-19

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported another 72 deaths from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 14,836. More than 150 new deaths have been reported in the past two days.

The seven-day moving average of new deaths rose from 26 to 27 per day, the health department said.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dipped from 2,477 on Tuesday to 2,436 on Wednesday, down from a recent peak of 2,676 on Sept. 10. Almost a third (30.8%) of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients.

The state on reported 3,936 new cases of COVID-19, increasing the cumulative total to 941,120.

More than 3.22 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m., after a daily increase of 5,784. Department statistics say 58.8% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated.
