Indiana reports drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations, 68 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 68 more deaths from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 14,550. The seven-day moving average of new deaths rose from 23 to 26 per day, the health department said.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped from 2,687 on Monday to 2,527 on Tuesday. Monday’s number was the highest mark since Jan. 7, when hospitalizations reached 2,769. The peak was Nov. 30, when 3,460 were hospitalized.

Almost a third (32.4%) of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients.

The state reported 4,733 cases of COVID-19, up from 3,580 cases in Tuesday’s report.

More than 3.18 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m., up by 5,436 from the previous day.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.
