As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowAttendance at this year’s Indiana State Fair ticked up slightly from a year ago despite storms and severe weather warnings that held back crowds on closing weekend.
Total attendance for the fair, which wrapped up Sunday, was 878,857, organizers said. That’s an increase of 2.1 percent from last year’s mark of 860,131 but down 3 percent from 2017’s crowd of 906,732.
The fair was extended by five days in 2009 to its current 17-day format. The top annual crowd since then was a record 978,296 in 2013 and the smallest was 731,543 in 2016.
This year’s fair theme was “Heroes in the Heartland,” which paid tribute to Hoosier farmers, first responders, educators, members of the Armed Forces, and others.
The 2020 Indiana State Fair is scheduled for Aug. 7-23.
