The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state gained 10,500 private-sector jobs last month.
September was the 12th consecutive month in which Indiana had an unemployment rate below 3%.
The state’s labor force participation rate also remained steady at 63.4% in September, higher than the national rate, which ticked down to 62.3%. The labor force, which includes residents who are employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,401,036, down 707 from the previous month.
Indiana’s total private employment is 2,773,600. The DWD attributed the new jobs to gains in the leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, financial activities, construction, and private educational and health services sectors.
The DWD said the state had 143,452 job openings as of Oct. 19, while 16,537 Hoosiers received unemployment benefits in September.
The state’s unemployment rate remains below the national rate, which dropped to 3.5%.
