Indiana’s daily COVID-19 death count lowest since Jan. 31

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 786 new cases of COVID-19. New cases have been below 1,000 nine times over the past 11 days.

The state also reported 9 new deaths due to the coronavirus, marking the first time since Jan. 31 that deaths have fallen to single digits in the daily report. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 141 of the past 143 days.

The department said 4,825 new individuals were tested Monday.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped from 765 on Monday to 731 on Tuesday, the lowest number since Sept. 12. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 608,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m. More than 1 million had received the first dose of a vaccination.
