only $1.5 million economic benefit? Where is all of the money from hotels and food, unless they don’t consider the impact to surrounding areas.
Between what seems like a never-ending series of squabbles between the Mayor and the City Clerk, dissenting comments from Council members over other economic development and now Grand Park possibly not quite being what many taxpayers thought it is, Westfield needs to get its house in order. Uggh
Can they rename themselves the Westfield Eleven?
Grand Park is performing and doing everything it was supposed to do which is drive economic development. I find it ridiculous that a sitting City Councilor is working to devalue the asset. Where is your fiscal responsibility to the taxpayers you are there to protect? If Mr. Patton were working for any business that was selling off operations of a subsidiary or the business asset as a whole and stated these types of things, he would be fired the next day. You have to ask yourself, why is he commenting on this?
Ken,
Grand Park has always had a lot of financial issues since day 1. The City of Westfield used funds from the sale of the utilities to fund its start and a large amount of debt. The issue is that for the amount of money sunk into this project, what is the real rate of return? Westfield should be focusing on other avenues of revenue, not l sports parks. It was a waste of money from the beginning for the City to be involved.
You can argue about the merit of the investment. Even the naysayers agree that it has delivered on its promise of diversification of our tax base and been an economic development driver. My issue is that a city representative should not be making public comments about one of our city’s assets during a valuation period. This is basic business. Do you go to list your car for sale and the in the description talk about how it was a bad investment or that it is not very fuel efficient? No. You list it and allow others to evaluate the assets value.
Patton’s priority is to be adverse to the current City Administration no matter what and at all costs. It is really sad. He doesn’t know what he is talking about but his words are certainly harmful to the City when coming from his position of an elected member of the council. He’s just very irresponsible and constantly thinks he is the smartest guy in the room. Bad combination.
Poor choice to elect this dude. When he was elected I was hoping that he was the one new guy that would be smart enough to help move the City forward. He obviously isn’t smart enough. Sucks.
I am surprised that there is criticism of the Grand Park as an Economic Development tool-whether it is a breakeven proposition or only making small amounts. It is an unbelievable asset for not only Westfield but the Indianapolis area and the whole State of Indiana. As a builder/developer in over 25 other cities, the uniqueness of Grand Park is unsurpassed. There is a reason Westfield is the fastest growing community in Indiana. And Grand Park has led the community to want not only the best sports facilities, but an upbeat downtown, libraries & schools and housing. It sets the local tone and is a magnet like none other I have seen. Bravo for the Mayor to recognize that its management is going to encounter new challenges in the future and the expertise to manage those is out there. Good luck on the selection process.
Brian, C the mayor’s son is always on the wrong side and crying anytime people want transparency over what is going on. If you watch the presentation, it clearly states what the value is in the RFP and the numbers presented. Clearly Ken and Brian did not listen to the presentation as I stated numerous times it is an economic driver and has been successful to that point. No one criticized that point. We only presented the same thing in the RFP in layman’s terms so the people of Westfield can understand it. If someone is going to buy it, they will actually have folks much smarter (not too hard to find them) than Brian and Ken for their due diligence.
Explain your reasoning for your “presentation” however you’d like Troy. It isn’t up to you to decide how it impacts the City at this point.
I’m going to go cry and find something to get on the wrong side of.
