If the City/CIB fund it, sure. I don’t think that they should, for quite a few reasons. However, I would argue separately that his collection would be better served in a more culturally rich City where it could be visited by a far greater amount of people.
The City and CIB have already indirectly funded the acquisition of many of these pieces via their support for the Colts that have enriched the Irsay family to where Jim could buy all this stuff … why not keep what the taxpayers helped pay for here in Indianapolis?

Jim Irsay needs to think MUCH bigger. Creating a local music mecca, with a museum, annual event on the scale of the annual Indy 500. Think annual Indianapolis music festival on the scale of Lollapalooza or Coachella. Lucas Oil would be perfect indoor/outdoor venue for a large scale music event.

We certainly have a surplus of space downtown now, i.e. the old state museum, the space where the City-County Building sits, the empty Circle Centre space, etc. People used to laugh at Hudnut when he had big dreams of making Indy a sports mecca. Sorry to interrupt the group hug, but does this really have legs as a stand alone attraction? A piano, drum set, a handful of guitars and Mohammad Ali’s shoe laces? Also keep in mind the age factor. Do the original owners of any of those items resonate with any under the age of 40? Maybe incorporate it into a current entity like IMA?
