    1. Yeah, that’s basically where we’re at.

      We have The Big 4, and then we have a host of secondary airlines. With few exceptions*, America’s secondary airlines aren’t big enough to do anything but fill niches that The Big 4 doesn’t want. When Big 4 airlines want routes that a secondary airlines developed, they use their size and power to run the secondary airline out of the market. There’s little Big 4 airlines from using secondary airlines as free market research.

      The Federal Government needs to do one of two things: 1.) breakup the ‘The Big 4’ or 2.) allow smaller airlines to consolidate such that they can meaningfully compete with The Big 4.

      *JetBlue is an exception in that it has been able to meaningfully compete with Delta in New York & Boston. Alaska Airlines and Hawaii Airlines are also for some West Coast routes – they’re both legacy airlines who fly well-developed, niche routes and have loyal customers. Maybe Frontier is competitive with United at Denver? Outside of that, it’s bleak.
