  1. The end of Division 1 college sports is coming, and soon. Why should I support a team that is bought and paid for by third parties looking to have a feeder program for the NBA and NFL. Where a player’s choice of schools has nothing to do with allegiance to a program, a tradition, a coach, or maybe even where his or her grandparents went to school, but is simply how much money will you give me today to wear your uniform.

If this is the direction, then the NCAA should copy from the pro leagues and have a draft…players will go where they are drafted and may not play for another college until their draft obligation is fulfilled. Or they can sit out the draft and see what their market value looks like in the pros. If you’re going to be paid like a pro, then the rest of the pro rules should apply.

    1. Exactly, and stop asking me to support student athletes, as they are now athletes while getting an education, maybe.

    2. Yeah, let’s continue to abuse poor kids who are athletically talented for entertainment!

But sure they get a free $80k degree that they do not have time to actually fully obtain because they are so busy entertaining us…

      Solid argument there

    3. The rest of the pro rules do apply. You think college football or basketball players are only athletes during the season?

I’ll believe they’re student athletes when Big Ten teams stop scheduling 9pm games on school nights…
