Dec 6, 1865, the passage of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ending slavery in the United States would seem to be THE MORE appropriate date to celebrate vs. the Texas proclamation made a few months prior. And what is the Juneteenth description? Confusing. I guess I’ll be tagged a racist for questioning. Actually I am just a historian. Certainly emancipation is a worthy and long overdue date to commemorate.

    1. You make a great point, and you are not wrong. But the Juneteenth date has been set by African Americans—so that is the date, June 19th.
