IBJ sends out a lot of emails—about news, events, subscriptions. We have so much going on, and we’re eager to make sure you’re up on the latest. But that can mean it’s easy to miss things in your inbox. So just in case you skipped over the notices, I wanted to call your attention to a couple of nomination deadlines that are almost upon us.
First up, IBJ’s Women of Influence program, which recognizes women who have risen to the highest levels of business, the arts, community and public service in central Indiana. This is one of my favorite programs. I love to hear the stories of women who are making an impact in our communities and our state.
Last year’s class of 23 included government leaders such as Dr. Lindsay Weaver, the state’s health commissioner; corporate executives such as Anne White, president of neuroscience at Eli Lilly and Co.; and entrepreneurs such as Rupal Thanawala, CEO of Trident Systems.
We want your help finding our next group of extraordinary women to honor. Go to IBJ.com/nominations to get more details and fill out the nomination form. Nominations are due Aug. 2.
A couple of important notes: Read over the form before you begin to make sure you have everything you need; you can’t save and come back. Make sure you tell us what makes your nominee special. A great resume comes to life with anecdotes, data and other information.
Another great IBJ Media honors program is underway at Indiana Lawyer, an IBJ sister publication. Indiana Lawyer is accepting nominations through Monday for its Diversity in Law program.
The awards, in their second year, recognize attorneys and judges from across the state and across practice types who have contributed to efforts to diversify the Hoosier legal profession through mentorship, law firm committees, bar association initiatives, educational programs and more.
Indiana Lawyer defines diversity broadly to include racial/ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, geographic and other types of diversity. Diversity programs have been under fire of late, but we believe the legal profession—like all professions—is better for having people representing all walks of life, all backgrounds and many, many points of view.
To that end, consider whether there is an attorney who works at your company or organization, a lawyer at a firm you’ve hired to represent you, or a judge you’ve encountered who has helped to diversity the legal community and make it a more welcoming place for diverse points of view.
Last year, Indiana Lawyer honored Myra Selby—the first woman and the first African American to serve as an associate justice on the Indiana Supreme Court—with its Diversity Trailblazer Award. Twenty-three more attorneys were recognized for their diversity work as well, including Taft’s Lacy Johnson, Penske Entertainment’s Jimmie McMillian and Indiana University McKinney School of Law’s Lahny Silva.

After those events, we’ll have only one more awards program this year: CFO of the Year. Nominations will open for that program next month. Nominations for our 2025 Health Care Heroes and Forty Under 40 programs will open in November and December, respectively.
