Goodin was the clear winner. By a mile.
The only candidate with a plan is Braun. The Democrats and Libertarians are speaking platitudes and dreams.
Braun didn’t announce a plan. A plan would have specified where the cuts were coming.
Braun’s plan is the equivalent of buying 100 miles of gas for your kids for their 150 mile drive back to college, then telling them they’ll figure it out.
Oh, Raymond….a “plan” that does not specify compensating budget cuts and or revenue, is not a plan.
It’s classic avoidance and pandering.
Rick, classic avoidance and pandering is also more commonly known as politics. A rerun of the old Three Stooges show would have been more entertaining and more intellectually stimulating than last night’s debate.
Micah knocked it out of the park with real solutions effecting the everyday Hoosier!
The entire “defund the IEDC and use it for small towns” is laughable, not only because it would take WAY more money to make a dent, not only because it would jeopardize Indiana’s future economic prospects, but because the only reason we can’t do both is because we as a state are too cheap.
Then again, maybe the best argument against the IEDC is that we can’t afford them because given how uneducated our workforce will be after Republicans “fix” education, the tax incentives they’d have to offer businesses will be immense.
While Indiana used to have these periodic bouts of irrational extremism (Klan in the ’20s, to a lesser extent the Birchers in the 50s, etc.), we usually bounced back after a couple of years and rejoined the rational thinking of most of the country. At times, we were even admirably ahead of the country in some legislation.
Why have we allowed the double-down extremist views of people like Braun, Rokita, and Christian Nationalist Beckwith to prevail for lengthier periods? Surely, the fact that the Democratic Party has been unable to field or support realistic alternatives comes into play. And a Republican Party that seems not to guide itself but allow the tail to wag the dog hasn’t helped.
But what is it about our current Indiana populace now that seems to follow such thinking in the first place? I’m genuinely curious and not wanting to demonize those who are choosing these people.
If these three Lt’s were actually elected by the populace, then their debate might be worthwhile. Otherwise this whole event was nothing more than a meet and greet, and an introduction of them to promote the Governor candidates. Nothing in this article to be taken too seriously.
