    1. Amen. And end the carried interest loophole.

      Both parties in Congress have to get serious about the subject, hold their noses, and do a bipartisan deal.

  1. If these programs go bankrupt there will be an outcry that makes the current political enviornment seem tame in comparision. These benefits were earned by taxpayers over the course of their lives (or at least that is what you are led to believe) and denying retirees their full benefit is basically stealing money. Not to mention the fact that you are taxed on the benefit you receive which is basically double taxation. This is why so many people are disillusioned with the workings of our government.

  2. Put members of Capitol Hill on the same retirement plan the rest of the country is on and watch how fast things change. Altho most of them will be gone long before 2035, but that’s a whole different issue.
