  1. Misleading headline. It is just as accurate to say “A Majority of Americans aren’t sold on Gas Cars” since only 46% said that they are not likely to buy an electric as their next car. The survey has 42% considering an EV, 46% not likely to consider an EV, and 12% who aren’t planning to ever buy a car. We’re a rounding error away from “More Americans want EVs than Gas Cars” and we still get these headlines… Get with the times.

Having owned a PHEV, BEV, and a standard gas-hybrid, all of these reasons “why-not” to get an electric vehicle are completely overblown and those fears are simply not the reality for the owners of these electric cars.

  2. We bought a plug in hybrid in the last year. Now when I get in my old gas vehicle and press on the accelerator, I wonder if something is wrong. It’s so laggy. The EV responds instantaneously.

Also, the EV has a “regenerative braking mode”. When you lift your foot from the gas, the forward motion is slowed and the energy goes into recharging the batteries. You don’t have to move your foot to the brake until you’re down to about 3-4 mph. This turns out to be wonderful in stop and go Interstate traffic. Your foot almost never has to leave the accelerator. I think the brakes are going to last forever as well.

We only have a 40 mile battery range, but the last time we put gas in the car was in early March. 98% of our driving is on battery. With smaller batteries, they recharge quicker at a much lower amperage than something like a Tesla.

We are glad we took this first step with the plug in hybrid.

  3. I would say convenience is the biggest negative. For those who need to park on the street or in [most] communal parking garages when they go home, there is no easy way to charge overnight. I dont want to hang around a charging station and wait for the thing to charge before I go home. In that same vein, i would need to get HOA approval (and a very talented engineer) to get a charging station installed at my garage parking spot.

  4. We interviewed a Republican Floridan and a rural farmer to find out why people hate EV’s. Wow what an article. As the poster above said they have been luxury vehicles until this point.
