New cases have exceeded 6,000 the past three days and topped 5,000 in 31 of the past 33 daily reports.
The state on Sunday also reported 37 new deaths due to COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 6,495. The state has reported more than 30 new deaths daily for 13 straight days.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 3,141 on Friday to 3,108 on Sunday.
The department said it tested 18,263 new individuals, the 47th straight day that testing in that category has exceeded 10,000.
The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals decreased from 25.7% to 25%.
COVID-19 patients occupy 40.8% of the state’s intensive care beds. The state said 22% of its ICU beds are still available.
