New positive COVID cases below 1,000 for eighth straight day

The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday reported 798 new COVID-19 cases and five new deaths.

That’s the eighth straight day new cases have been less than 1,000.

The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state has increased to 734,736, and the state has reported 13,054 deaths.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased by one, to 832, on Friday. The all-time high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The health department reported the testing of 7,430 new individuals.

The state said more than 2.28 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Nearly 2.5 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.
