The facts are facts. Producing EV’s requires less people and less parts. The big three already know and I won’t be surprised when we see “shifts” or “restructuring” in manufacturing man power.
“assurances that good-paying union jobs will be preserved as the companies transition from gasoline-powered vehicles to those that run on electricity.” – I’m all for good paying jobs but that’s a long uphill battle.
Placing heavy burdens on Detroit automakers when Ford, GM, and Chrysler enjoyed an oligopoly in the North American market was a successful, if shortsighted, tactic of the UAW. Unfortunately, the automobile market has evolved with many non-UAW represented companies participating, so tactics that result in less competitive UAW represented automakers is self defeating, as evidenced by Union membership decline over the past few decades.
The UAW manufactures could afford to pay employees $64 per hour if they didn’t need 2 people to do an hours worth of work!
