    1. I think he owes American Citizens, who over the last 200 years have come from every country in the world. It sounds like you would only be happy with a native American, unless you really meant a white caucasian male?

  1. I don’t care where she emigrated from. There are plenty of people who came out of the former Soviet Union, such as Victoria Spartz, who are clearly not Marxists. But I find this article surprisingly uncritical of the views that Mz. Omarova has expressed. I think folks should find the many articles out there and read those views for themselves and ask themselves if they really want the Federal Government having the level of control that she proposes. The financial crisis, and Wells Fargo, are mentioned as if government policy in trying to push home ownership via Fannie Mae, etc. didn’t contribute to the problem by politically favoring a certain industry. We’ve seen similar with student loans. But the answer here is to give the Federal government even more control?? Centralize everything including everyone’s savings accounts? That sort of faith in government, which isn’t just made up of people you might admire but also that jerk neighbor you struggle to get along with, simply isn’t justified. Though I agree that doing things like making a big deal out of some petty theft charge she had that was later dropped is distraction, and possibly even smearing, noting that her proposed policies are more in line with what you would expect in failed communist/socialist systems shouldn’t be dismissed as merely a resurrection of a “Red Scare.” Giving the government that much power to manipulate the economy (beyond what it already has) should concern everyone that it invites even more politics into the system where winners and losers will be chosen not on sound financial analysis but instead based on political patronage or idealism with not founding in reality.
