8 thoughts on “Pfizer tells U.S. officials it cannot supply additional vaccine until late June or July

  1. The story reads as if there was little to no risk to the government: “The contract between the government and Pfizer stipulated that if Pfizer’s vaccine were successful and received authorization from the FDA, the U.S. government would purchase 100 million doses at a set price.” Yet the Trump administration declined.

    .

More mismanagement of the pandemic relief effort.

    1. This is literally the one time in history where it’s ok for the government to buy something that won’t work out because the potential upside is so large. Yet they failed.

And 70 million people thought this administration of incompetence should continue to lead America … boggles my mind.

    2. Without Trumps business acumen you would not even come close to a vaccine for 5-7 years more less months. You see a business man understand the regulator hurdles and what removing then does and a politician doesn’t care about the regulator hurdles. Politician only care is how can I line my pockets and that of my donors. Be careful what you ask for 8 years of <3% GDP under Bambam was not all that rewarding. Oh the
S & P 500 and NASDAQ hit all time high yesterday, and yes Trump is was President when it happened.

  2. More political fallout risking all Americans. What a disgrace. Why did Trump administration decline, when the President developed warp[ speed a with billions of dollars of taxpayer dollars for these pharm firms to develop and now they sell to England First. Rotten. We the American people are paying for this. We are entitled to be first.

  3. Pfizer declined to accept government money for the R&D and refused to provide our government the interim testing results. Not surprising that the government did not agree to purchase 200 million doses while Pfizer held the relevant information “behind curtain number 2.”
In any event, Pfizer does not have to behave like this NOW. Pfizer is headquartered in New York City. It should have been reserving capacity for the US. It did not have to jump into opportunistic negotiations without providing the US yet another opportunity to buy after its press release of the favorable results.
And, please note that other countries employed a “___ First” strategy early in the pandemic. For example, in March, Germany enacted rules prohibiting exports of PPE and Covid-19 tests out of Germany. The U.S. is entitled follow suit now. Under that scenario, Pfizer doesn’t have to sell to the US, but it won’t be able to export the doses, either. Pfizer could deal directly with its home state of New York though, if it doesn’t want its warehouses to fill up.

    1. We only had to buy the doses if it was approved and we passed. Glad we have a businessman running the country!
