8 thoughts on “Political polls fall way short again in 2020, raising red flags for future contests

  1. We should be surprised? The mainstream media, in concert with most pollsters, has been in the bag for liberals for decades. Indianapolis Business Journal’s continuously reposting items from The New Your Times and The Washington Post, in addition to their local left-leanings, are reasons why I’m allowing my subscription to expire in a week or two, at the end of its term.

    1. The polls, like rest of the media, were false to get Republicans to donate to Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and Lindsay Graham to name a few. Funds were diverted from the presidential campaign to hold on to the Senate, which it turns out was unnecessary- not even close. It was a red herring, Bob. I am also not renewing my subscription to IBJ. Put the money previously spent on IBJ and subscribe to the WSJ. There is a last bastion of real journalism with a staff of critical thinkers at the (WS)Journal, and articles from the New York Times and Washington Post are not regurgitated. You can subscribe to only the Weekend (Sat., Sun.) edition if you like. The left has managed to get Kamala in to the Oval Office, as they know the presumed candidate won’t last long. Perhaps he can get Hunter another job paying $183,000/month again in Ukraine. It’s a world in which the BLM philosophy is preached to school children. It’s kitschy to love America. (I have posted the IPS manifesto here before.) I am sorry for my children and grandchildren. Cops are bad people; they must be, as they endorsed Trump. I am sorry for my children and grandchildren. Russia has to be delighted, as our country implodes on itself. I will miss your comments as well as Jeff’s and Rhea’s and others.

    2. Bob, IBJ doesn’t repost articles from the NY Times. That’s not one of its subscription services. One question: if IBJ was left-leaning, why would it even post this article?

  2. I won’t miss Bob P and Susie D’s rants, conspiracy theories, name calling and reposting of misinformation to suit their partisan echo chamber. Hopefully the IBJ comment section will return to intelligent conversation about the local business community.

    1. Derek, if Indianapolis Business Journal limited itself to “intelligent conversation about the local business community,” I wouldn’t be allowing my subscription to run out. So you are half right, which is better than most liberals.

  3. I agree that IBJ is left leaning. If you “report” a poll and it turns out to be a sizable miss, you are responsible for misleading subscribers as much as the failed pollsters. Most if not all of the polls report Democrats leading political contests … and they are often proven wrong, time after time. It skews the outcome! After all, working class peasants that subscribe to IBJ are far less intelligent than the media/IBJ reporters, editors, and political “elites”. Subscribers depend on poll information to know how to think and vote. Once again the peasants get cheated. To post this article “after the fact” is completely irrelevant. The outcome has already been influenced.

Why do we even need polls? How about the media reports “only the facts of events that actually took place” … and stops “telling the viewers what the reporters think everything means” You could charge extra for “facts only reporting”. If you want to shape the government and culture, run for office. If you want to be part of the media, get a journalism degree … and stop trying to shape all the outcomes! I realize this is an impossibility because 95% of the university journalism professors are teaching their students how to shape and influence the culture, at the expense of being objective. This puts the First Amendment at risk! Not that the elites care about that.
