As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowGrand Rapids, Michigan-based Pridgeon & Clay Inc. is planning to close its manufacturing facility in Franklin, according to a notice to the state.
The company said the move will affect 125 workers. A specific closing date was not provided.
The 76,000-square-foot plant at 150 Arvin Road in Franklin specializes in lighter gauge stamping, according to the company’s website.
Pridgeon & Clay did not provide a reason for the closure, and multiple requests for more information were not returned.
In its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the company said it laid off six workers on June 17 and another 66 on Sept. 16. A timeline for the layoffs of the remaining employees was not outlined.
The company said the closure is expected to be permanent, and the affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights.
Pridgeon & Clay, founded in 1948, says it has more than 1,000 employees companywide, including 80 engineers. The Franklin plant was the company’s only U.S. manufacturing facility outside of Grand Rapids.
It also has facilities in Mexico, Hungary and China.
