  1. Indygo is getting over $51M and all we get is… “money to prop up day-to-day operations, including staffing and payroll as well as cleaning and sanitization”. Unreal.

    1. It is a service…. what do you expect to come out of it?

We get the same service from republic for our trash…

    2. Jason – you mean it is a bit like giving an addict close to insolvency a wad of cash with the idea it will allow them to continue as they have been for a while longer? Makes perfect sense to government bureaucrats spending taxpayer money (and remember, about half don’t pay income taxes…).

    3. So? Transportation is one of the biggest barriers to low-income households improving their quality of life. It’s really, really hard to get to decent-paying jobs if you don’t have a car (10% of Marion County households have none and 40% only have one). Seems like something we should be funding to help people stabilize themselves and reduce desperate action (such as violent crime).

    4. Helping day-to-day operations and cleaning and sanitization sound great to me! Also, there is a driver shortage, so any help with payroll and staffing will be very helpful.

  2. Our public transportation in greater Indy is poor and needs to improve. The low wage jobs being created in those big warehouses in Plainfield and Greenfield will get filled if poor Indy residents can get to them. If this helps IndyGo deliver its services where business and workers need, our whole community grows. Good for us.

    1. Yet the legislature dreams every year of shutting down the blue line.

It’s almost like they want people to stay on welfare.

  3. As a child in 1950s Indy, we did not have a car in our single parent home. If you wanted to go anywhere, the options were walk, take the bus or forget about it. My guess is that Scott G and Jaron W do not use public transportation and never did. Most who complain about public transportation are not users of it; which is too bad. Would you listen to a food review from someone who never tried the dish? Or a movie review from one who never saw the flick? Narrow fields of vision are not a good basis for criticism.
