As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowPurdue University is partnering with numerous industry and government partners to develop what the university says will be the first-of-its-kind “smart manufacturing” undergraduate degree program.
The major, which will be offered through Purdue’s School of Engineering Technology, will incorporate a variety of advanced-manufacturing and technology disciplines, including data analytics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous robotics and others.
In developing the program, Purdue has worked with Microsoft Corp., Rockwell Automation, PTC, Endress and Hauser, Foundry Education Foundation, the International Society of Automation and the U.S. Department of Energy, among others.
Purdue is still working through the approval process for the new major, and the university has not yet said when it will be ready to start accepting students into the program.•
