  1. It’s this kind of stuff that will enable food chains that can feed all of us safely without destroying the oceans or turning everybody into a vegan.

    1. Exactly. Whether land-based (beef, pork, lamb, chicken, game) or aquatic, the ever-expanding world population demands more protein and this is one of the ways to provide it. Although it can and should be done with water treatment/recycling.

      It would be interesting to see a comparison of “carbon footprint” between farmed salmon and feedlot beef; I’m pretty sure salmon are not a significant source of methane.

  2. When you think about it, we are all “genetically modified” when the genes of our parents come together to create us. In fact, every living thing is a change (ever so gradual) from their previous generations in a process of genetic evolution. We are also all related to some degree with every living thing as we share ibosome genes (particularly the 16S rRNA) which is present in essentially every living thing – bacteria, plants and animals.
