Hart hopes to represent District 89, which covers part of east Indianapolis and includes about half of Beech Grove.
“I’ve lived in this district for over 25 years,” said Hart, a Republican, in a written statement. “I know the communities and people, the schools, and businesses.”
Hart said he would prioritize local infrastructure, Indianapolis’ justice system and statewide mental health initiatives.
“The southeast side of Marion County is expanding; we cannot continue to build without infrastructure expansion,” he said. “We need to widen the roads and add more sidewalks. Furthermore, people have the right to feel safe in their communities. We cannot continue to let people fall between the cracks of our criminal justice system.”
Hart first took office on the City-County Council in January 2020, after taking 53% of the vote to Democrat Duane Ingram’s 47%. Hart works in information technology.
Democratic Rep. Mitch Gore holds District 89 in its current, pre-redistricting form. The new maps take effect for the November 2022 elections.
