State COVID-19 numbers rise by 863 cases, 16 deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 863 new cases of COVID-19, the 12th time in the past 13 days in which daily cases have been below 1,000.

The state reported also 16 new deaths due to the coronavirus. The department said 5,085 new individuals were tested.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased from 628 on Monday to 657 on Tuesday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 744,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m. More than 1.17 million had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

New tested individuals: 5,085

Total cumulative tested individuals: 3,161,087

Cumulative positivity rate unique individuals: 21.2%

Seven-day positivity rate unique individuals: 8.6%**

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 9.6%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.1%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 1,178,265 (daily increase of 24,232)

Fully vaccinated: 744,712 (daily increase of 20,145)

Hendricks County cumulative cases: 15,993

Madison County cumulative cases: 11,831

Boone County cumulative cases: 6,220

Hancock County cumulative cases: 7,487

Morgan County cumulative cases: 6,155

Shelby County cumulative cases: 4,651

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 34.5 %

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 4.6%

Available ventilators: 80.4%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 1.6%

As of Wednesday, from Johns Hopkins University:

U.S. cases: 29,099,393

U.S. deaths: 527,854

Global cases: 117,700,447

Global deaths: 2,612,891

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
