The Indiana State Department of Health on Friday reported that 1,461 Hoosiers had tested positive for COVID-19, the highest number of daily new infections since 1,483 cases were reported on April 29.
Friday’s count was a sizable increase from the 1,284 reported on Thursday and 1,248 on Wednesday. The daily counts this week have all been above 1,000, after several weeks of reports in the triple digits.
The department also said that six people in Indiana had died in the latest daily count. The state reported 15 deaths on Tuesday, 12 on Wednesday and six on Thursday.
The state’s cumulative death toll is now 13,576.
Hospitalizations declined to 755 in Friday’s report, slipping from 795 the previous day. Hospitalizations are down from a recent high of 1,019 on May 4. The pandemic-high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
The state said nearly 2.94 million Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. More than 2.92 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The department no longer issues reports on Saturday and Sunday.
