5 thoughts on “States sue TikTok, claiming its platform is addictive, harms mental health of children

  1. Not a fan Tik Tok, but suing them on the basis it’s harmful to children’s mental health is ridiculous. The suit should be geared toward the entire internet and it’s social platforms.

    1. What do you mean by ‘toward the entire internet’? It’s not like you can sue the fiber optic cables…

Anyway, I think the basis of this suit is fine. TikTok – like all other social media platforms – are especially harmful to the mental health of children. Most adults have more tools with which to confront the perils of social media.

I agree that TikTok shouldn’t be the only target, although it is especially concerning that China controls TikTok’s algorithms. It just feels icky that a foriegn, adversarial government can subtly influence American children by tweaking a stupid algorithm. Not that Google, Meta, and X aren’t icky too…

  2. If you think Tik Tok is bad check out the Twitch streamer going live, while driving a McLaren, going 70mph, in the rain. It’s a good one. This type of “influencer” needs banned from every platform.

  3. I am ok with the suit, but why are we ignoring the adults who are providing the platform for teens to access social media and not being responsible for those actions. My kids have no access to any social media, period. It is my responsibility to educate them on what social media is, pros and cons. It is also my responsibility to oversee what and how they use any and all devices that are accessible to them.
