I’m pretty sure federal and state aide is supposed to be implemented in association with federal and state funded highways, not neighborhoods and local town and city streets. The private sector will be responsible for implementing the local infrastructure.
Waste of a 100 million dollars, in a failed attempt to force EV’s on unwilling consumers.
By the time they get the charging network up and running, most manufacturers will not be producing EV’s at sufficient numbers to warrant this wasteful and inflationary spending!
Well this comment was driveling nonsense and demonstrated that you have absolutely no understanding of the drivers of inflation.
Decarbonizing transportation is rooted in the much-needed effort to eliminate tailpipe emissions and improve local air quality, especially in historically marginalized communities. EV purchasing and American manufacturing is on the rise.
This issue is only the tip of the environmental justice issues with TVs in Indiana. Because of the cost, most EVs are bought in the more affluent communities. This does reduce emissions in those local areas but unfortunately, pushes carbon and other emissions to where the electricity is generated, which in Indiana is to a large extent in coal plants in rural and underprivileged communities.
Ford Motor released a study three or so years ago that showed that Indiana (especially southern Indiana) is one of the few locations in the country where hybrids are a better option for the environment than EVs due to the heavy percent of coal burning electric generating plants.
In general, we need to have more equitable access to EVs, EV charging and electricity generation.
In response to Steve R., surveys show that the majority of car buyers do not buy EVs due to range anxiety. This concern will not be alleviated until a more robust charging network is in place. Just like in manufacturing, you produce and sell products in volume only when the production and infrastucture system is in place.
