Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations hit lowest mark since start of pandemic

The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday reported 878 new cases of COVID-19, the 15th day in the past 16 in which daily cases have been below 1,000.

The state reported also 27 new deaths due to the coronavirus. The department said 5,697 new individuals were tested.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell from 608 on Thursday to 583 on Friday, the lowest number in more than 11 months, during the first month of the pandemic. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 816,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Saturday at 5 a.m. More than 1.25 million had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 9.5%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 1,256,381 (daily increase of 25,765)

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
