Good. The republican idea that striking down the individual mandate somehow nullifies the entire law is ludicrous. Go home, Mitch.

It certainly isn’t ridiculous. But you must be a constitutional scholar! I guess you’ve written the book on severability.
If they wanted to strike down the law… why didn’t they strike down the law when they had the chance?
Because Chief Justice Roberts issued an opinion in which he ignored legislative intent in favor of a judicial interpretation. They aren’t going to strike the law down now. I don’t disagree. But it’s 100% a valid exercise; thus why they granted cert. roberts held the ACA constitutional ONLY because he deemed the mandate a tax (read his opinion). Congress removed the “penalty” (aka tax) in 2017. Thus, there remains a valid question before the court.
Nope. They had a repeal that was only stopped when John McCain said no.
Given that it was their idea, why do Republicans hate the ACA so much? Because Obama implemented it? The current issue is that they’ve spent ten years hating it but still don’t have any alternative… but the base actually believed their rhetoric, so they’re stuck just trying to sabotage it as much as they can.
As it is, the likely next step will just be government single-payer all because Republicans won’t just try to improve the ACA. Fools.
What are you talking about? What does McCain have to do with the Supreme Court? Co gross can’t “strike down a law”. They can change a law or remove one. The court “strikes down” law, so what’s your comment about McCain have to do with anything?
Why do republicans and libertarians hate the ACA? Let me count the ways…forced people to buy a product – own they can’t afford to use. Took choice away from individuals. Raised the cost of insurance. Forced private companies to offer particular services. I could go on. America is the last bastion of any semblance of capitalism.
You completely ignored the entire legal justification for the case, by the way.
John Roberts didn’t think much of the legal justification either. As he said, if the Republican Congress wanted to get rid of the ACA, they could have done so … if not for McCain’s “no” vote. If they have/had a better plan, they’re welcome to pass it through the Senate and make the House the “bad guys” for voting it down.
Other countries get better health outcomes by spending less money … I think copying from any one of them would be a good start. I haven’t seen much evidence for “the free market will make it better” approach that Republicans have pushed since the Democrats implemented a plan on their health care ideas.

I think the justices understand clearly that Republicans would never win another national election if they struck down the pre-existing condition and up-to-age-26 provisions.
Fortunately for us, we have a few justices left on the court who aren’t interested in politics or bench legislation in Kavanaugh, Roberts, Barrett and Gorsuch who make their rulings based upon the constitution and not on elections
