10 thoughts on “Threatened by shortages, electric car makers race for supplies of lithium for batteries

  1. Just build more PHEVs!
Smaller batteries than Electric cars so you can make 5x more cars with the same amount of Lithium. No “Range Anxiety” because PHEVs have a gas tank. Charge them anywhere you have a power outlet – or just drive it like a normal hybrid and never charge it – since you have the freedom to choose where and when to fuel up with both gas and electric power. The efficiency of an Electric car every day, and no worse than a Hybrid longer trips. Normal mechanics know how to work on hybrids and you won’t have to take your car to a specialist or dealership.

    1. The climate death cult wants you to be 100% reliant on unreliable energy, and if you don’t have the money to afford electric cars when the commodity prices skyrocket, they want you to go on dangerous public transportation which is far slower and inefficient. Progress!

  2. We don’t have the grid to furnish sufficient electricity as it is, and now we don’t have the raw materials to make the batteries. Yikes.

  3. Another “well thought out plan” by the current administration. Anyone thought out what the heck we are going to do when eventually all these EV cars need to be demolished and what to do with these gigantic batteries? Lastly, how many stories will we see on the news about electric grids crashing in California and elsewhere? What a boondoggle.

  4. Biden signed a 20-year moratorium on US-based mining of rare earth metals (lithium), ensuring China will own this market for decades.

Our electric grid can not handle the volume of EV’s that our government is mandating be produced in the coming years.

The “common folk” can not afford a $60k EV. Shortages of lithium will only drive that price higher.

    “God save the Queen, man.”

    1. This is not true. The mining moratorium is for one location on Federally-owned, protected land in Minnesota. It was not going to be a lithium facility and it is not a moratorium on US-based mining.

    2. Really? So on March 21, 2023, Biden didn’t sign a proclamation for banning drilling and mining on over 500,000 acres? Located in Texas and Nevada? 80% of Nevada is on public lands and is full of rare earth metals.

  5. “Securing metals must not come at a sacrifice to the environment,” said a U.S. group, the Natural Resources Defense Council…

EV’s are not about the environment, it is about control!

  6. Amazing the how the “infrastructure” money flowed so quickly to build battery and chip plants. Amazing how fast these mammoth, expensive facilities get built and will be incomplete in 5 years and destroy 10’s of thousands of farmland.
    WAKE UP People!
We are getting scammed and screwed with our own money!!
    Vote ’em all out
